Former president of the Commission for Equality and Women’s Rights (Portugal), was also president of the Committee for Equality between Women and Men of the Council of Europe and of the Advisory Committee on Equal Opportunities of the European Commission.
Former member of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities of the Council of Europe and of the Experts’ Forum of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE).
Temporary consultant for several UN agencies, Council of Europe, European Commission and OSCE.
Author of studies and articles in the areas of: women’s rights and gender equality; national mechanisms for equality; and history of women in Portugal.
